Our passage from Panama was a record breaker. I designated Miles as Captain for the voyage and he made a plan for two overnights to the island of Providencia. As the trip unfolded we had such perfect sailing conditions to keep going. In all we covered 637 miles in 6 days, 5 nights. We hoisted the full main sail as we pulled out of the San Blas and we didnt have to shorten it until dropping sail into Guanaja, Honduras. The boys would fly the Spinnaker in the morning and we could enjoy it all day. In the evening we would stow the Spinnaker before the winds picked up. We watched many musicals for our evenings entertainment - West Side Story, Phantom, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, and (not a musical, but awesome) The Magnificent Seven.
We have now traveled 7900 miles on Eclipse.
Flying Wing-on-wing with the Spinnaker. I didnt think it would work, but we managed nearly 5 knots in 8 knots of wind downwind.
Smooth easy sailing calls for a good book.
We had a wonderful send off from Panama with a dolphin escort.
On day 1 of the passage we caught this 50” Mahi...
and moments after I was done cleaning up, we hit a 4’ Thresher Shark on the same line.
The foredeck crew stowing the Spinnaker.
A little hitch-hiker. He flew around Eclipse at dusk on day 5 and chose this perch inside the salon. He snuggled in and watched Phantom of the Opera that evening. Jerome saw him wake up at first light and fly out of the cabin.
Strumming and steering with your feet takes (and still needs) a lot of practice.
